The [S] Factor

In Malaysia, Shariah compliance is a massive demand driver.

The Stat: Shariah-compliant IPOs have access to Islamic funds and a wider retail pool. This often leads to 30-50% higher oversubscription compared to non-shariah stocks in the same sector.

Cornerstone Anchors

Look for big names in the Prospectus Summary.

The Safety Signal: If institutions like KWAP, EPF, or AIA are cornerstone investors, the IPO has passed rigorous due diligence. These stocks rarely fall below their IPO price on Day 1.

Price Stabilization

Ever heard of the "Green Shoe"? It's your safety net.

How to check: Open the Prospectus (PDF) and Ctrl+F for "Stabilizing Manager". If you see an IB assigned to this role, they will buy shares to prevent the price from dropping below the IPO price for the first 30 days. This is a massive "Safety Shield" for your capital.

Promoter Lock-up

Founders can't just "dump and run" in Malaysia.

The Rule: Major shareholders are usually locked for 6 months to 3 years. This means they CANNOT sell. If you see a long lock-up period, it means the founders are committed to growing the company value post-listing.

Dividend Policy

Look for the "Dividend Policy" section in the prospectus summary.

Passive Income: An IPO with a 40% - 60% dividend payout ratio is extremely attractive for funds. This creates consistent buying demand every quarter, which helps support the share price even during market downturns.

The 9:00 AM Battle (TOP)

Between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM, you will see the Theoretical Opening Price (TOP). This is the price where the most orders match.

The "Last Minute" Trap: The TOP at 8:45 AM is usually fake. Watch the 8:58 AM - 8:59 AM window. If the TOP is significantly higher than our "Est. Open" on the dashboard, the hype is real. If the TOP starts dropping in the last 30 seconds, big sellers are enteringβ€”prepare to sell quickly!
Visualizing Listing Day Order Book

The 50/50 Rule

Fear of missing out vs. greed is the biggest enemy on listing day.

The Strategy: Sell 50% of your shares within the first 15 minutes to lock in a "Free Trade." Let the remaining 50% run until the end of the day or until it hits the Analyst Average TP.

No MITI Scarcity

IPOs like SkyeChip are special because they have no MITI tranche.

Why it matters: Normal IPOs have 12.5% supply from MITI. "No MITI" means 100% of the institutional demand must fight for fewer shares. This usually leads to a sustained rally rather than a "dump and pump."

Broker Heat Check

Watch for "Fully Subscribed" reports from preferred brokers like Moomoo MY 12-24h before closing.

The FOMO Signal: If a broker is "fully sub" before the official close, it's a massive indicator of retail frenzy. Expect the final Oversubscription (OS) to be 2-3x higher than initial estimates.

Sifu's Selective Phase Playbook

The IPO market has now entered a Selective Phase. You can no longer blindly subscribe to every IPO. Use the following filters to protect your capital and maximise returns.

Grade & πŸš€ Rating Filter

Only apply for IPOs rated πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€ and above to maximise returns. Skip or avoid any IPO below πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€ to avoid capital loss risk (capital preservation!).

Customer Concentration & OCF

High-quality customer concentration (e.g. Cheeding, ITMAX, Keeming, ISF) commands a strong premium due to clear Order Book visibility. Cross-check with OCF for quality net profit.

Thematic Catalysts & NSS Policy

IPO research goes beyond numbers β€” understand major catalysts such as government policy exposure (NSS Semiconductor Policy for AMBEST/AMS) or special market themes (Sarawak infra for IAB, Visit Malaysia for Aquawalk).

Sifu's Strategic Trading Cycle

Sifu's trading style: Hit TP Close (sell when price reaches the calculated projection), wait for a Drop Pullback Re-entry (re-enter at a discounted price), then Accumulate Heavily and hold long-term for fundamentals.

Sifu's Insight Matrix (Q1 2026)

Net Return: +12% to +16%

Losses (22.2% | -8% to -15% Avg)

β€’ Hocksoon πŸ“‰
β€’ OGX πŸ“‰

β€’ GHS πŸš€
β€’ OGM πŸš€
β€’ ADnex πŸš€
β€’ MTT Shipping ⚠️
β€’ Manforce Group ⚠️
β€’ (No trade = No loss)

Lesson from OGX & Hock Soon Cases (Losses): Despite solid fundamentals and key figures, the market can punish a stock due to **lack of buying interest / poor market sentiment** at listing (OGX) or **short-term concerns like subsidy removal** (Hock Soon). Use a reasonable margin of 15%-25% (OGX) or 3%-5% (Hock Soon) as a safety signal to skip or limit your position size!

Common Hunter Mistakes

Ignoring the IB

Certain Investment Banks (like M&A Securities) have a track record of higher Day 1 pops. Don't ignore the pedigree of the underwriter.

Application Late

Don't wait until 4:55 PM on the closing date. System traffic can lag and you might miss the boat. Aim for 24 hours before closing.

Market Order at Open

Using "Market Orders" at 9:00 AM can be dangerous if the bid/ask spread is wide. Use "Limit Orders" to control your exit price.

Lesson from the SBS Case (When Analysis Goes Wrong):

SBS had solid financial fundamentals, but the sector lacked a clear catalyst. Analytical errors can happen to anyone, including Sifu. The portfolio safeguard is disciplined loss limiting: rejecting Private Placement (PP) offers, only taking the minimum MITI allocation, and not going All-In. Avoid FOMO when the market price starts slipping below the IPO price.
